I'm working on my first activity for the LV route. I'm a third done with setting up some pickups and I've laid out the player path and created and placed the player train. Everything saved OK and I checked the actvity with Route Riter and everything checks out. When I go into MSTS and try to load the activity, I get 2 messages. The first is "Failed to set-up trains for Activity" and the second says something to the effect of "failed to initialize activity manager". Help!!!

Signed,
Frustrated in Woodburn

Hi Bill,

Have you entered something in both the activity briefing and activity description?. An entry (can be a single letter or number etc.) is required.

Bill, another possible cause .. did you do Menu/Tools/Verify starting state? If so, then the following is not the case, since it will flag it there on the spot.

If you didn't, there is possibly a consist that is off the end of a siding somewhere that can cause this although usually you have a different error message saying something to the effect - Can't place uid etc. However, I've had it happen with this error also.

Actually I figured it out. In all the AE docs I purchased and downloaded, none of say that you must not place a player consist at the start point. I assumed you had too do this just like the loose consists.. When I checked the activity file it had my player consist listed as a loose consist. I went to the VCR mode and sure enough I had 2 trains trying to occupy the space of one. Doh! I know, I know, I'm an idiot. But a friendly one. Wink Thanks for the answers back. I actually stayed up 'til 1:00am researching this. didn't figure it out 'til 10:00am.

It comes up with an error along the lines of the activity won't run.

No, Bob it will not let yu save it if you do not fill in those 2 boxes. Made that mistake right after I tried to fit 2 trains in one spot. the first one was easy to fix the latter one wasn't becuase the player service train does not show up in the 2D window until you put it in VCR mode. Why? I don't know, I haven't found any 2 things in the AE that follow the same pattern. Oh, yes there is one pattern. Everything is random. Cool

I've got every tutorial out there plus Rich Garber's book on Activity writing. That book is a must for anyone who's never tried the AE and want to sink their teeth into activity writing. If you don't have the book the AE might not give your teeth back! Laughing

Your ae must be different from mine. The one I am using will let you save an activity without a description or briefing. It only gives a warning that it will not be playable.

Your right Buttercup, I went back into my AE and blanked out one of the top two briefing folders and that's the error message I got. Well, back into the AE quagmire i go.. I tied a roap around my ankle so my wife can pull me out if I get buried again. Cool

I should have my first NERR w/o ready for the feasablility team later next week. I found a paparazzi hiding in a bush taking pics during one of the trial runs I was making for the new w/o. I caught him and took the film out of his camera. I hope that's all the photo's he had taken.

Hi Bill,
In the A.E If you select Tools -verify starting state. The Player service will show up. Keep at it, but keep that rope tied to something solid so you can pull yourself out again. Wink

I get error message: NE grain 101_empty Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes (uid:200236)placement at -11686+14456:+861.0+1.5+-381.2 failed. Too far from track. Can't add car NE grain 101_ empty(uid:200236) to world. How do I decipher this information to find the location of this car?

That big set of numbers is the longitude and latitude in the sim. Turn on your hud and you get those coordinates.

I would zoom out a little and see where I placed consists on a siding. What it is telling you is some of the cars of the consist are hanging off the end of the siding. You know it is the grain car. Go where you added them for a pickup or eye candy.
