Search for "MSTS Norfolk Southern Pocahontas District" in the file library over at Train-Sim. There are 8 files to download. _________________ An expert is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared.

It is the Norfolk-Southern mainline between Williamson, WV and Bluefield, WV. There are also several branches and spurs. The route also goes into parts of Virginia and Kentucky. The primary industries are Appalachian coalfields.
The NS yard at Bluefield is also featured in the NS Clinch Valley Route and the NS East River Route.

NS Pocahontas (NEPO) and NS East River (NEER) are part of the NERR system.
NS Clinch Valley Route is not currently part of NERR. Activities were being development for Clinch Valley Route as "NECL". Activities were released for Clovis Sub (NECL) using the same naming convention before any Clinch Valley activities could be released for testing.
Some prior discussion about Clinch Valley:

I apologize for that one (using the NECL). Neither John nor I remembered that there was work going on for the NS Clinch Valley Route. How about changing to NECY (NECV is already taken)? I'd be willing to help translate the acts if you need help. _________________ Rick

Please don't change that coding for now. I can't edit/alter or delete any work orders currently in NETS. This problem occurred when the hosting company changed the version of PHP that they provide. The problems with NETS won't be fixed until the next version of NETS, which Brian is currently developing - but it won't be finished for some time yet. _________________ An expert is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared.

I wasn't going to change any of the Clovis Sub acts. I was offering to help change the unpublished Clinch Valley acts. _________________ Rick

OK, I can probably change names to NECY.
I don't exactly know the steps involved. The paths, loose consists, AI traffic, and services all use NECL in their names on all of my Clinch Valley activities.
Is there a tutorial for this procedure anywhere?

There isn't really a tutorial on changing a name. I'll try to remember what I did when I have changed a couple. You will need a Unicode compatible editor to do this (WordPad or Notepad both work for me). I start with the ACTIVITY directory and work down so that I might not miss anything
Start with the .act file. (I usually make a copy with the new name and work from that.) Do replace on all the NECL to NECY. Then save the file.
The next directory is the PATHS directory. There will be a file (with a .pat ending) for the player train, plus one for each of the AI trains in the activity. Do the same for each of these files - make a copy with the new name, then edit each file and change all the NECL to NECY.
Next is the SERVICES directory. There will also be a file (with a .srv suffix) for each player and AI train. Make copies and edit the copies making the same changes.
Last is the TRAFFIC directory. There will be only one file (.trf) there that needs to be worked. Do the same copy and edit task with that file.
Well, that wasn't really the end. Go down to the TRAINS\CONSISTS directory and search out any files that are used in your activity. Hopefully you named these with the same NECL beginning to the file name. If you used other names, then don't worry about this step. The same copy/edit task needs to be done with these. However, there is only one line in each to edit.
One thing to check is that most files have a NAME field in them. The capitalization of the name in this field must be exactly the same as the capitalization in the file name.
I hope I didn't leave anything out. If all goes well, You should be able to open the new activity in AE and not have any errors. I usually use RouteRiter to check a changed activity first.
Hopefully this long list doesn't discourage you from making the changes. On some acts I have just started over. I don't want to get into how to copy loose car strings from one activity to another. That gets pretty complex as there are quite a few things to watch. I'm a software engineer by profession, but learning someone else's methods by experimentation is still painful at times.
Good luck and remember, this is supposed to be fun! _________________ Rick
