XTracks upgrades the track shapes in your MSTS installation to a set of a much higher standard. Some routes will not work without XTracks being installed (e.g. ADFRR, Hamilton Norfolk, CSX M&M, Wisconsin Central). To find out which ones, you should check the readme.txt that comes with the route.
But you really should install XTracks without worrying about which routes need or do not need XTracks, because all routes will work if it is installed, whether they specifically need it or not.
Xtracks can be downloaded from the Other Downloads page on this web site. You need to log in through NETS in order to be able to download it. Unless you intend to develop a route, you need only the standard version - about 9 Mb.
Before starting the installtion, copy the /Global/shapes folder in your MSTS installation to some other place on your hard drive - make sure that you remember where you put it.
The version of XTracks provided here is self-installing. ownload the zip file, open it, and double-click on the exe file inside. And that's it.
Members do not report any problems with either the installation or the operation of XTracks. But if you do have any issues, ask for help in the forums.
You should also install the New Roads set of extra road files - some routes need them, and they will cause no problems with the routes that do not use them. _________________ An expert is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared.

John is right. And as a matter of fact, both xtracks and new roads should be part of you base installation, one of the first addons you install when you install msts.
I've been running xtracks from day one, and have never had a problem. Same with new roads, no problems ever. _________________ Buddy Ramstetter
