I just installed the Clinton sub route from the VNERR downloads page and none of the signals are working. I can see the aspects in the track monitor, but the signals themselves are all dark. Any ideas?
Edit: Tried a different activity, and it starts out where I can see the aspects of the first signal, but then the next one (and track monitor) shows failed, the next one OK, the next one failed, etc. Same thing happens on the first w/o I tried - I get to a point where every other signal shows up as failed on the track monitor. I know this all sounds bizarre, but does anyone have any ideas? _________________ John Urtz

If you don't have BIN installed, it sounds like the old *too many lights, not enough resources* problem. Cutting down resolution or sliders may help a bit. btw, this is not due to you or your machine, but to the archaic way the original MSTS uses memory. You can have 3 gigs or more available, but MSTS just can't find it without the changes in BIN. _________________ Robert R. #109 - NW Division

One thing I've done with all my rolling stock is to totally delete all light code in the wag files. this alone frees up tons of memory on the computer. With the good freds available now, no need for the cheesy wag lights. _________________ Buddy Ramstetter

I do have Bin installed, same version currently in use at CNW. Have the same dark signal problem with Marias Pass 3.1, but no issues with the CNW route. Is there perhaps something in the sigcfg.dat for the other routes that needs to be changed to support the Bin patch? _________________ John Urtz

I frequently have the signal light problem with the Full Bucket Line, but haven't noticed it with the other lines. The usual problem is that some of the engines have way too many light sources on them and if your train or an AI train uses several of those engines the signals will be dark. _________________ Rick

I've reported this problem as well sometimes ago for FBL,LV and NJC.
Now I have installed the "latest" BIN-Patch and what should I say? - Signals on NJC and LV are on!!!. FBL not checked yet.
The latest Wupper-Express-Version (11) are still dark
For CNW I can report no errors until now.

Well, it's good to see I am not the only one to see the problem. I gave up on the Clinton Sub for now and moved onto the NJC, where I can see the signals no problem (so far). _________________ John Urtz

This is a great idea. Maybe it sould be the standard for all NER cars _________________ Martin Jeruzal |

I've installed the latest BIN-Version. With them the lights problem should gone. I've now with all sliders up working signals. Except Wupper-Express 11. There are no working Signals. .
There are no errors occured between the latest BIN and CNW until now. _________________ Andy

I removed the wagen lights as previously posted and the signal lights work fine now. I'm about 1.5hrs into the activity with no additional problems "Yet". B.T.W. I too have the latest BIN and still had no lights prior to this fix. _________________ Martin Jeruzal |

What is the wag file change necessary to remove the lights? _________________ John Urtz

cbff33 Posted: Thu Dec 25, 2008 2:04 pm, above, makes sence. Why do we need lights in wag file if we are using FREDS?
This data just takes up space. The more I have removed the better my system works. Also some of the lights are so miss-alined they make the car look funny. _________________ Martin Jeruzal |

As an FYI, installing the latest Bin patch fixed the problem I had with the dark signals on this route. _________________ John Urtz
